I figured I needed something to inspire me to get writing on here again so I’ve set myself a challenge. I have to admit there’s nothing particularly challenging about it, but it’s just an excuse anyway! I’ve been using GNOME exclusively for at least 6 months now and my current Archlinux set up has only ever had GTK-based desktops installed (GNOME, XFCE & LXDE).
Today I am uninstalling my GTK-based desktops and installing KDEmod, partly to see if I like it and partly to see if I can stick it out, but mostly just as an excuse to get on here writing again.
I’ll let you know how it goes.

Well, I’ve been pretty much the complete opposite, KDE pretty much exclusively for (I guess it’s been at least a year and a half for the most part.) I still use some GTK apps though, Firefox being about the biggest of them. Others include occasionally GIMP, the standard MySQL GUI tools (administrator/browser), AbiWord (for my purposes, it’s typically really fast), and occasionally a few other odds and ends like PulseAudio’s GUI tools (paman, pavucontrol, etc).
Rekonq is starting to look pretty descent as a replacement for Firefox. GIMP is well, It’s a huge complicated program. It’s understandable that there’s no Qt/KDE equivalent. The rest are pretty simple and if there isn’t an equivalent there, one could be written relatively easily.
There is actually a good paint program for KDE called Krita and it can do quite a lot of what Gimp can do. It’s not bad at all.
