KDE for a week: part 2

If you’re looking for feedback on my experiences with KDE then you can find it in previous posts and comments below. It may (or may not) be obvious that my KDE saga ended after about 24 hours. I got really pissed off with things (bluetooth mainly) just not working and on top of that I [...]

KDE for a week

I figured I needed something to inspire me to get writing on here again so I’ve set myself a challenge. I have to admit there’s nothing particularly challenging about it, but it’s just an excuse anyway! I’ve been using GNOME exclusively for at least 6 months now and my current Archlinux set up has only [...]

Time for another screenshot… I haven’t done one of these for a while and the
other day I was browsing through my collection and found this:

Previous to taking this screenshot I had wasted about 2 days compiling KDE 3.3 from source,
which at the time was about 2 years out of date, because I though that it [...]

3 week project – part 3

Well shortly after my last post I realised that there may infact be a pre-compiled binary for VirtualBox on the sun site… there is… and it works just fine! That’s that one in the bag…
Last night I updated my whole system to Slackware-current, which I’ve not tried before. It was a very smooth [...]

KDE 4.1 – continued…

Well… it’s gone… And I didn’t even use it for a day. I liked the desktop effects; and, as I mentioned in my comment, they worked better on my system than compiz; and I liked the comic strip widget.
Overall I think the whole thing looked and felt quite nice and dispite my disagreeing with the [...]

KDE 4.1

Last night I installed KDE 4.1 on my bare-bones Debian Lenny (Testing) System and much to my disbelief I actually quite like it. Recently I’ve been using Openbox on this computer, because it’s fast and looks quite nice too; I think Openbox is a decent step up from Fluxbox.
I remember being put off of KDE [...]

Just to keep things ticking over… I’ve got about 5 long posts that are about half-written so in the mean time here is another old screenshot I took, probably from 2006. The intention behind this desktop setup was to configure KDE to mimic the default appearance of GNOME, and it looks quite pretty.

This is a recent screenshot from my laptop. It is KDE 3.5.9 running on Debian Sid. I’m always trying to mix and match themes, window decorations and wallpapers to try and achieve a minimal, efficient and slightly retro look without making it ugly. The theme here is QtCurve combined with CDE window decor and KDE’s [...]

I’m in the process of writing some longer posts about the stuff I’ve been playing with lately so for now you’re getting another old screenshot to keep you entertained. This shot is from November 2006, it is of KDE with a dark blue theme. The style and window decorations are called “Domino”. In the bottom [...]

I have quite a collection of screenshots saved for various phases and desktop design preferences. I will be posting these snapshots at random times because I find it interesting how people choose to configure their desktop environment and it’s nice to share… Today’s screenshot is from last year when I was using Zenwalk. I had [...]
